State Park Trail Run

Sunday we woke up to a cooler than normal June morning so we decided it was perfect for a trail run. Since our lake home is only a few miles from the park, we drove over with the intent of running just a few miles.  We accomplished this but never thought it would turn out to be so educational as well as beautiful.
Starting Out

Tulip poplar bloom - Indiana's state tree
Trail that circles the lake

Historic Spring Cabin

This frog was in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Kevin's foot caught it along the trail as he was running.  He thought it was a rock, but I saw it flop around and thought it was a squirrel. It was stunned for a few seconds and then it hopped off into the bushes.  I bet he had a headache the rest of the day.
A slight detour to the beach which is usually packed with sunbathers.  Due to the cooler temperatures we have had lately, it was deserted.
Must have photo on the beach

View across the lake

Always on the lookout for a "heart rock"
Shelter on the Historic Register

Cross country skis rented here in the winter

Ant hills
Tree covered with poison ivy

Refrigerated toboggan run in the park

Inn and restaurant inside the park serves a delicious breakfast buffet.  But...
Our breakfast.  Can't beat a Diet Coke and a donut!

    1. Can't beat a Tom's fresh baked donut! We have another trail run planned for this weekend. I think it will be slightly warmer though.

    1. It is beautiful. Natalie would love to run on a trail. I think Fox Island has trails that you can run that aren't too difficult. Are you and Natalie running the Diva Dash together? That would be fun. I am walking it with my sister-in-law. It will be her first 5K. I ran on trail 5 in Oabache this week and it is beautiful!
