New Year, New Training Plan

The new year brings new hopes for many.  For me, I really just want to get back to a regular fitness schedule. During the holidays and the extra week off from school due to snow and sub-zero temperatures, I have become a slacker. With three half-marathons scheduled this spring, I needed a running/walking plan that would get me motivated.  After much research, I found the Run/Walk Half-Marathon Plan by Jenny Hadfield best suited for my current fitness level. She has a Walk/Run Plan as well as a Zero to Running Plan that would work well for those runners who want to do more walking than running.  In the past, I have used Jeff Galloway and Hal Higdon's half- marathon training plans but I wanted to try something different with three half-marathons only about one month apart.

  1. How exciting! I always like starting a new training plan. Something about what could be. I'm excited for your half, too. I think you'll have fun.

    1. Thanks Kim! On my cross training days I am using the workout that you emailed me. It is perfect! I am just finishing up week one of my training plan but I have not missed a day!

  2. It's harder to get moving when the weather is so cold and crummy, but having a schedule helps me. Yours looks good - when I train, I follow one from USAFit. They ramp up the mileage nice and easy (it's a 24 week plan), which I greatly appreciate.

    1. I will have to check the USAFit one out. My first half is the first of April on the Indiana University campus which is known for being hilly. I wish I had more time to train because I like the idea of 24 weeks to train.
